According to India's new influential news magazine, "Outlook", which commissioned independent pollesters MODE to conduct opinion polls in the troubled valley. The first edition of Outlook contained the first ever opinion poll taken in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, where police and hospitals say more than 20,000 people have been killed since early 1990. The results of the opinion poll were published on 11 October, 1995.
Results:
Independence: 72 %
72 % of the people want independent State of Kashmir.
Elections NO: 80 %
80 % said elections are no answer to the problem.
Elections YES: 3 %
3 % said elections would solve the problem.
Forces Guilty: 90 %
90 % said Indian forces were guilty of high level of human rights violations in Kashmir.
